Mobile marketing spend 2011 only 1%

According to a recent report from Flurry Analytics, mobile is grabbing 23 percent of consumers’ time which is double the previous estimate by eMarketer that estimated 10.1% of total media consumption end of 2011. And yet mobile receives approximately one percent of the marketing budgets which is ridiculous considering that mobile engagement continues to grow at a rapid pace.

I was going to write a longer blog about this but then realised that I can summarise this in a few bullet points:

  • By 2015 mobile will be the first and not the second screen with higher frequency of access than the PC
  • The mobile channel already makes up 15-20% of all traffic to the majority of consumer websites in the UK and US
  • 25% of customers are saying they will not return to a brands site unless it is mobile optimised
  • A few online companies are dominating mobile by embracing it as their core business including eBay, Amazon, Google, Facebook, etc

Many other companies are already getting this but 9 out of 10 are not. Can anyone today seriously claim that they do not need to invest in mobile?
